Overview
In Mitaka, amid the western suburbs of Tokyo, stand the Reversible Destiny Lofts Mitaka (in Memory of Helen Keller). Created by trailblazing architect/artists Shusaku Arakawa and Madeline Gins, these were the first-ever residential units built according to their concept of “a house not to die” — in other words, “architecture against death.” Arakawa had a strong interest in death since he was a child. He found the infinite possibilities of the human body. He believed by transforming the body, we could reverse our destiny- in other words, not die. The two devote themselves enthusiastically to creating such environment. The duo believed that a habitable environment for humans would weaken the sensorium and muscles. The body should be constantly stimulated. Daring to live in an uncomfortable house can training your body and prevent you from dying. Join this tour to learn more about Arakawa and Gin’s vision and to discover the meaning of “reversible destiny”! The tour will be operated with Arakawa+Gins Tokyo Office (Coordinologist, Inc).
