Kayuki -Joint Founder, Admin & Sales Rep of Showcase Tokyo
Who I am...
Born in Sapporo (Hokkaido), grew up in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), immigrated to Pretoria (South Africa), lived there for three years, then returned to her family home in Yachiyo-city, Chiba Prefecture. Hopped from job to job until the unprecedented Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Realizing that our lives on this wonderful planet are precious, decided to focus my energy on what I love, and become a licensed tour guide in 2014. Started Showcase Tokyo with my great partner Yuka, a talented tour guide with rich experience in this field, to fulfill my dream of sharing the beauty and character of Tokyo, a city forever redesigning itself from within, blending east and west, resulting in a unique city alive with reminiscences of the past and the dreams of the future.
My favorite Japanese architect / architectural site of Tokyo...
Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple, which was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and reconstructed by Chuta Itoh who is known as the leading architect and architectural theorist of early 20th century Imperial Japan. Although it’s a Buddhist temple, its building design style chooses to represent all world religions and welcomes all visitors with different cultural background.
My life can be colorful with…
My favorite PURPLE color, Dior’s Catwalk BLUE Waterproof Mascara, O.P.I’s vivid color nail polish, playing the fiddle tunes on my old violin inherited from my late uncle, practicing Yoga, chatting on about the good old days of travelling in the Middle East alone over a glass of DRY white wine, and of course, I cannot live without my little tiger son, Kojiro!!
Tokyo is like a museum of modern architecture;
it retains many of good points from the past, yet also brings in the new as well, which helps make it a resilient and continuously attractive city.
I enjoy communicating with people all over the world, and I hope that my guests find some new ideas and value which they can apply to their everyday life.
